Locals Do their Part to Change the World

United Methodists throughout Western PA are out to Change the World by “thinking globally and acting locally” to make a difference in their communities and raise awareness and funds to save lives in Africa, where children are dying from malaria, a preventable disease.

Many of you are aware that our oldest son T.J. has joined the Peace Corps. You know that because simultaneous joy and concern for him spills rather quickly from my lips.
T.J. is in Honduras. Earlier this month he received his permanent assignment for the next two years. The assignment came after two months of intensive language and culture training, along with interviews and analysis of the potential each volunteer possesses. HARRISBURG – United Methodist Witness in Pennsylvania has a new name: United Methodist Advocacy in Pennsylvania.
“Communication requires quick, clear messaging,” said the Rev. Keith Benjamin of Carbondale, PA, chair of the UM Advocacy PA. “Changing our name from witness to advocacy removes any confusion about our role. We are advocates for the church and Jesus Christ.”

Consumers hit hard by the recession can cut their prescription costs by using the PS Card, a free prescription discount card available from The United Methodist Association of Health and Welfare Ministries.
Millions of the cards are now available through the association’s members and United Methodist churches across the United States, said the Rev. Dr. Mearle Griffith, chief executive of the association.
