SUMMARY:Mission Centered Ministry-Armagh UMC
DESCRIPTION: Are you looking for ways to develop a purpose centered spir
itual life to stay focused?Do you need help in creating a st
ep by step process for congregations to share their faith? If
either of those topics spark your interest, this seminar is
for you! Both clergy and liaty are encouraged to attend.Stay
ing focused on the mission of “making disciples of Jesus Chr
ist for the transformation of the world” is essential for be
ing a fruitful congregation. The afternoon session of this s
eminar will explore with participants a variety of issues ar
ound the mission. Included are the factors that cause congre
gations to make decisions and plan ministries that are more
reflective of personal preference and comfort than the missi
on of Jesus Christ. The seminar will then center on the impo
rtance and process of developing spiritual leaders that can
help a congregation stay centered on the mission. The specif
ic process that will be discussed and detailed is out of our
Wesleyan heritage that was at the core of the Methodist mov
ement when laity were dynamically involved in the living out
of the mission. And that process is the class meeting, wher
e a model of a 21st century class meeting with its key facto
rs will be experienced and clarified. This seminar will also
give practical tools for aligning ministry consistently wit
h the mission, especially at the times of planning and repor
ting – including results based ministry descriptions for the
sake of the mission. In the evening, this session will focus
attention on developing a congregation’s ability to do the
work of evangelism. The process shared is a model of develop
ing in stages the competencies and confidence for persons to
share their faith in Jesus Christ – using the educational s
ystem as an analogy. The model starts with “elementary schoo
l” evangelism, which is service evangelism – using service a
s a means of evangelism. Then, participants will explore “mi
ddle school” evangelism of faith sharing in their small grou
ps. After that comes the “high school” evangelism of testimo
nies in worship. Next is “college level” evangelism of invit
ational evangelism and proven strategies to engage the congr
egation in inviting others. And finally, then comes “graduat
e school” evangelism – sharing our faith with someone not of
faith in order to help them come to faith. And by following
this simple process one step at a time, a congregation can
be developed to do the mission of making disciples of Jesus
Christ for the transformation of the world consistently and
well!Cost: $25 for afternoon and evening sessions, all ma

SUMMARY:WPA Conference Minister's Chorus
DESCRIPTION:   The Western Pennsylvania Conference United Methodist Mini
sters’ Chorus is a group of United Methodist Ministers and t
heir spouses from throughout the Conference.  The original M
inisters’ Chorus was started over 60 years ago, and has been
singing regularly since then.  There are some members of th
e Chorus who have been singing in the Chorus regularly for m
ore than 40 years.  There were originally two separate choru
ses: a Ministers’ Male Chorus and a Women’s Ministers’ Choru
 s.  In October, 2003, the two choruses merged to form the We
stern PA Conference United Methodist Ministers’ Chorus.  The
Ministers’ Chorus does eight concerts a year, and is curren
tly under the direction of Rev. Duane C. Slade and his wife,
Muriel Slade.  Those who come will have the unique opportun
ity of hearing a blend of men’s and women’s voices singing b
oth separately and together.  There is no charge for admissi
on; however, a free-will offering will be received.  Come ou
t and enjoy an evening of beautiful, sacred music.  If you h
ave any questions, please contact Rev. John V. King, pastor
of the Sugarcreek United Methodist Church, Franklin, PA at 8
14-432-7052. The WPA UMC Minister's Chorus presents concerts
on the third Thursday of February, March, April, May, Septe
mber, October and November. For the complete 2010 schedule,
