Volunteers in Mission Update, Prayer Request
Dear VIM Leaders and Friends of Mission,
The following are WPA individuals and teams that could use your prayers this month. Please register your teams on-line here so we can pray for them. This volunteer ministry is a powerful witness by Western Pennsylvania United Methodists.

Zimbabwe: We give thanks for the safe return of The Nyadire Connection team led by Sara Dickey that served at Nyadire United Methodist Mission from April 15-May 2. Sara stayed on in Zimbabwe for a meeting of the Health Board, where she was joined by Bob Higginbotham, assistant to Bishop Bickerton, and Joel Garrett, chair of the Conference Global Health/Zimbabwe Partnership committee.
Red Bird Mission: We give thanks for the safe return of the St. Paul’s UMC VIM team that served in Red Bird, Kentucky May 2-8. As we cheer for our favorite baseball teams at this time of year, I’ve learned that baseball teams aren’t the only ones that trade players. If you encounter leader Dick Rishel, you might ask him about trading two women workers for a ladder from a VIM team working on a house near where Dick’s team was working.
Haiti -- May 10-17 – NE Jurisdiction/National VIM team led by Greg Forrester. Jim Bickford from WPA is on this team. Jim will lead a Conference team to Haiti in the fall. The Allegheny Health Department recently sent out an advisory that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has received reports of dengue fever among relief workers returning from Haiti, where the disease is endemic. There are many things to pray for in Haiti – for Haitians and relief workers alike, that they might be kept safe.
Haiti – May 14-19 – volunteer team led by Terry Collins.
Haiti – May 28-June 5 – Haiti – Light of Life Mission team led by Pam Armstrong.
Thailand – May 18-June 3 – please keep my mother (Ola Cox) and me in prayer as we visit a friend in Thailand. While there I intend to connect with United Methodist missionaries/projects.
